The Revolution will admit to being a bit slack last week. What can I say? I headed down to the Outer Banks of North Carolina for my six day Fourth of July holiday where I proceeded to do nothing other than lying on the beach soaking up the sun and getting drunk. But, reality returns this week as I am back in the city and chained to my desk once again.

We have a total of 16 titles headed to the Bunker. This week is slightly heavier with Marvel titles. We are certainly in store for a fantastic week full of strong titles. I love weeks like this. I am already excited for this week’s selection of comic books.

It sucks that I have to wait for Thursday for the comics this week. Even though the Fourth of July was last week and Diamond ships on Mondays, they still managed to use the holiday as an excuse to be late with this week’s shipment of titles.

Which DC comic book am I most looking forward to reading? Action Comics #867 is sure to be a good read. I enjoyed the debut issue to this new story arc involving Brainiac. Johns will certainly have a few surprises in store for the reader.

Booster Gold #1000000 should be a strong read. Johns and Katz’s run on this title is coming to a close and I am excited to see how they end this story.

However, the DC comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is Justice Society of America #17. Johns has crafted such a gripping read on this title. Johns has managed to deftly shift back and forth between tension building drama and solid character work with wildly exciting action scenes. It should be interesting learning more about Gog and what his plans are for Earth.

Which DC comic book am I least looking forward to reading? That would be Trinity #6. This is not a horrible title, but it certainly is the weakest read out of the impressive selection of titles headed our way from DC this week.

Which Marvel comic book am I most looking forward to reading? This is a tough choice. Nova #15 should be another fun read. DnA keep the story rolling at a quick pace and there is certainly no shortage of action.

I am also looking forward to reading Guardians of the Galaxy #3. Look at all this love for DnA on The Revolution. GOTG has been an absolute blast to read. DnA have come out the gate like a ball of fire and I fully expect GOTG #3 to continue the trend of exciting reads.

However, the Marvel comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is Secret Invasion #4. I am curious to see if Bendis can deliver an issue of Secret Invasion that is actually better than the tie-in issues that we have gotten on New Avengers and Mighty Avengers. Up to this point, I have found the tie-in issues to be more interesting reads.

Which Marvel comic book am I least looking forward to reading? This is an easy choice. It has to be Amazing Spider-Man #565. This title is just terrible. Nothing but my undying love for Spider-Man and the fact that I have been reading this title since I was six years old is keeping this title from falling victim to The Revolution’s dreaded axe.

As always, I’ll try my best to start posting reviews as soon as possible. I hope everyone enjoys their new comic books for this week.

  1. Nothing but my undying love for Spider-Man and the fact that I have been reading this title since I was six years old is keeping this title from falling victim to The Revolution’s dreaded axe.

That’s exactly what Marvel’s counting on, though. It’s like with X-Men in the mid-90s…they figured that they could crank out as much crap as they wanted and reap the rewards because they were selling the brand, not the stories.

Until there is a serious backlash against this ongoing butchering of Spidey it’s just going to keep on rolling.

  2. @rotsman: I have to agree with you man. I know that no matter how much I love anything, if it’s consistently terrible week after week for that long a period of time, I say it’s time for some tough love.

However, I guess there’s something to be said for nostalgia.

  3. IMVHO the new issue od Amazing (#565) is much better than the previous stuff. The story seems interesting, there’s some neat humour and a nice twist at the end.

So far the best issue since the beginning of BND.

  4. I have to make a plea on behalf of not dropping Spider-man. I have faith that, eventually, things will get better. You have to stay the course! …If nothing else, the art is still good.

Seriously, though, for all my grumbling about how I dislike the change in Spider-man, the whole magical soul-selling retcon, the stories they’re telling are only weak from the perspective that we hate that they exist. We wish they didn’t. But if we suck it up and look at the Book by its own merits, it’s really not all that bad. Imagine if ASM was really Lost Tales of Spider-man. Would you dislike it as much then, or could you just enjoy the story of a Peter Parker who’d scream JJJ into a heartattack and use his Spider-powers to stalk celebrities?

    …Maybe that was a bad example…

I’m not just saying keep Spider-man because I want it, or because you’ve been reading it for years. I’m saying that, like the Clone Saga, this dark period of Spider-man’s run should still be documented and remembered.

    So it never happens again.
