Let’s keep the Iron Man party rolling with even more Shellhead today. Marvel is making this summer a wonderful time for Iron Man fans. I guess this is Marvel’s way of saying sorry for all of the outrageous character assassination and bashing on Iron Man that Marvel let their writers engage in since Civil War. If that is the case then apology accepted.

I have never checked out Marvel’s Marvel Kids website, but I finally took a peek at it this week and I have to say that it is pretty cool. The best part of Marvel Kids is the videos section. They have all these neat little short videos and preview videos for upcoming DVD’s. You can check them out at MarvelKids.com.

And continuing the Iron Man theme for this summer, there is an Iron Man animated short that also includes the Hulk and Spider-Man. It is a pretty cool little short. The best moment is near the end with the Hulk and a puppy. Nuff said.

All right, let’s check out the comic books for this week. We have 15 titles headed to the Bunker. This week’s shipment of comic books is still Marvel heavy, but we are getting more DC titles this week than the tiny selection that we got last week.

Which DC comic book am I most looking forward to reading? Booster Gold #9 should be a phenomenal read. This story arc just keeps getting hotter and hotter. In this issue we get the return of sorts of the Justice League International. It should be interesting seeing the matured and evolved Booster and Ted having to gather their old teammates in order to take on Maxwell Lord.

However, the DC comic book that I am most looking forward to reading has to be Batman #676. Morrison kicks off the much anticipated “Batman RIP” story arc with this issue. DC has been hyping this story arc as a huge event. That Batman’s world is going to radically change in this story arc. That remains to be seen, but there is no doubt that DC has succeeded in piquing my interest in “Batman RIP.”

Which DC comic book am I least looking forward to reading? Superman #676 is going to be pure filler. Even DC is admitting that fact. This issue is a story that was originally scheduled to appear in Superman Confidential #9. This issue is just DC burning time until James Robinson rides to the rescue with the next issue.

However, the DC comic book that I am least looking forward to reading has to be Titans #2. Winick delivered a wretched debut issue on this title. I have no hope of Winick being able to craft even an average read with this title much less a good read.

Which Marvel comic book am I most looking forward to reading? It is all about Iron Man and this week is no exception. We get the All New Iron Manual which is chock full of goodies. We get info on all of Iron Man’s allies and his greatest enemies. But, more importantly we get a complete gallery of the Iron Man armors, plus all-new schematics of key armors and the SHIELD Helicarrier.

I am certainly looking forward to Iron Man: Legacy of Doom #2. It was fun reading a David Michelinie penned Iron Man issue once again. The creative duo of Michelinie and Layton will always remain number one in my heart when it comes to Iron Man.

We get two debut issues this week from the House of Ideas. I am a sucker for a first issue of a new title. I am comic book whore and will pretty much try anything. So, I’m willing to give Captain Britain and MI 13 #1 a try. I know very little about Captain Britain other than he is Psylocke’s brother. And I have never heard of the writer for this title: Paul Cornell. His writing credits include Doctor Who and a bunch of other British television shows that I have never heard about. Cornell also wrote a Marvel MAX title called Wisdom. He has also done a filler issue on Young Avengers Presents.

However, the Marvel comic book that I am most looking forward to reading is the other debut issue this week: Guardians of the Galaxy #1. Unlike the Captain Britain debut issue, I know plenty about the creative team and characters for this title. And I am definitely excited for this issue. DnA have done such a wonderful job with Marvel’s cosmic characters. Therefore, I am confident that this title will be a quality read.

Which Marvel comic book am I least looking forward to reading? This is an easy one. It has to be The Twelve #5. JMS has rolled out wretched read after wretched read on this title. This story is going nowhere, the pacing is plodding and the dialogue is annoyingly preachy at worst and simply pedestrian at best. I have no expectations of suddenly getting a quality read on this title.

As always, I’ll try my best to start posting reviews as soon as possible. I hope everyone enjoys their new comic books for this week.

  1. Yeah, the previews for captain britain look really good, and so i am definately picking it up. As for gotg, i have been looking forward to this title from the day that they announced it. I agree that the twelve will probably suck. lol.

  2. Big fan of Cornell’s Marvel stuff, so I’m looking forward to Captain Britain.

Apart from that, I’m getting Booster Gold, Wonder Woman, and a smattering of other one-shots and such.
