Wanted: A Major League Baseball Team

All right, I have turned to the loyal followers of The Revolution over the years for advice on topics outside of the world of comic books. And I am turning to you all once again for a little guidance. With the beginning of the Major League Baseball season I realized that I need to pick a baseball team to root for.

I never had a local team to root for when I was a little kid. The Florida Marlins did not come to Miami until 1993. I did go to a couple of Marlins games and they sucked. The main reason they were so lousy is because they play in Joe Robbie Stadium which is an average football stadium and a horrid place to play baseball. And the lack of tradition and the lack of a loyal fan base turned me off from the Marlins despite their success in winning two World Series titles.  However, the fact that the Marlins will be changing their name to the “Miami Marlins” and are getting a new stadium makes them slightly more appealing.

So, here I am without an MLB team to root for and I am not going to go through another baseball season without a team to pull for. I have picked nine teams that I would be open to rooting for. Vote away and pick The Revolution’s baseball team. Feel free to leave comments pro or con for these teams. And if you really think I improperly looked over a team by not including them in the poll then let me know.

  1. What?!? No Yankees to vote on? They are from NY just like Marvel and DC. Ask Stan Lee who he roots for? I bet its the Yankees, not that other team.

And now is a good time to be a Yankee fan. They are crappy again just like when I grew up in the early-mid nineties.

  2. How about the Cubs? They have an incredible (if somewhat tragic and darkly comic) history. Unlike the Red Sox, being a Cubs fan actually means something today given the losing and suffering they’ve gone through. The Cubs have a loaded starting rotation and a good enough lineup to make a run. If they can just get over the pressure and the “curse” they’ve got as good a shot as any. Curses don’t exist- the Red Sox proved that.

  3. Dude, you have to throw the Pirates in the mix. Everyone loves to root for the underdog, and there’s no bigger underdog than the worst team in the history of American professional sports.

@Werehawk: No Yankees. Even though I never had a favorite MLB team while growing up, I always had the team that I loved to root against: the Yankees. I cannot give that up. It is way too satisfying and fun to root against the Yanks. 😉

Boo hiss! Whatever, you review comics well. I can’t let you be a Red Sox fan though. Is nothing sacred? I’m voting Cubs!

  5. I don’t see this as an option, so I’ll give my vote here:

    Choose football.

Sorry, but baseball ranks below paint drying, grass growing, evolution, and golf for excitement.

    🙂

  6. Join us as a fan of the Chicago Cubs. Can we promise you victory? Not always, no. Can we promise you triumph? Sometimes. Will you experience defeat? Well, yes – no team goes undefeated. Will you experience despair, sadness, pain? I won’t lie to you – they’re part of the package deal.

Can we promise you 40,000 comrades converging upon one of the game’s last cathedrals on a daily basis, all united by the hope that this is the year and the knowledge that when, finally, “the year” does arrive, the celebration will be seen and heard from space?

Why yes. Yes, we can. Every day. Without fail. Rain or shine, night or day.

    Join us.

  7. I dont get why americans dont love hockey. its fast paced, exciting, super violent. what is not to love? I agree with thematrixhasyou about baseball. Fun to play, but not fun to watch. and rokk, it doesnt suprise me that you living in miami means you dont like hockey, the panthers suck.

  8. Rokk, what’s it going to be- Cubbies or Dodgers?

The followers are waiting on the edge of their seats at this momentous decision 🙂
