Comic Book Reviews 1/21/26: Amazing Spider-Man #20AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #20

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Joe Kelly

Artist: John Romita Jr., Paco Diaz, and Todd Nauck

Inkers: Scott Hanna, Paco Diaz, and Todd Nauck

Colorist: Marcio Menyz, Erick Arciniegam, and Marte Gracia

Letterer: Joe Caramagna

Amazing Spider-Man #20 opens in a way that exemplifies the problem with the focus on Ben Reilly and Norman Osborn this series has had. The character choices made are head scratching. Add in the artwork-by-committee approach, there are so many problems with the general pacing of this issue that it overshadows any good parts of Joe Kelly’s writing. Comic Book Reviews 1/21/26: Assorted Crisis Events #8ASSORTED CRISIS EVENTS #8

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Deniz Camp

Artist: Eric Zawadzki

Colorist: Jordie Bellaire

Letterer: Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou

Assorted Crisis #8 is the best example yet of the creative risks taken by this series that lead to incredible storytelling results. Deniz Camp and Eric Zawadski make incredible style choices with the writing and artwork that makes this story about what it means to not be seen hit differently. It’s not just understanding the journey of the main character’s experience of not being seen. It is about the experience created for both the character and reader. It drives home why this series continues to be must-read.

Overall Rating: 9.5 Night Girls out of 10

Comic Book Reviews 1/21/26: Exquisite Corpses #9EXQUISITE CORPSES #9

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Tyle Boss and James Tynion IV

Artist: Valentine De Landro and Michael Walsh

Colorist: Jordie Bellaire

Letterer: Becca Carey

Exquisite Corpse #9 captures the tension of having to go through near-death experiences and how people react through it. Seeing the different scenarios that various characters go through as they are simply trying to survive and what that means is a chilling experience to read. Valentine De Landro and Michael Walsh were especially at the top of their game with the artwork capturing the high degree of tension all the characters go through. Their pencils along with Jordie Bellaire’s coloring steals the show.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III #4 Cover AMIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS/TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES III #4

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Ryan Parrott

Artist: Vincenzo Federici

Colorist: Raul Angulo

Letterer: Ed Dukeshire

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III #4 exemplifies what a penultimate issue should be. This sets up the stage for the finale of this crossover without being bogged down by that being its own identity. There are plenty of more fun and cool moments that naturally blend things from both franchises. The pacing makes the two major surprises delivered in this penultimate issue ensure that the maximum amount of hype is built for the finale of this crossover. Click here to read the full review.

Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10

Comic Book Reviews 1/21/26: Nightwing #134NIGHTWING #134

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Dan Watters

Artist: V Ken Marion

Colorist: Veronica Gandini

Letterer: Wes Abbott

Nightwing #134 is a big test for Dick Grayson using his status as a veteran superhero to maintain his cool against everything Zanni throws his way. That is easier said than done given Zanni’s complete control of reality in the Fifth Dimension. Through this Dan Watters is able to constantly challenge Nightwing’s ability to maintain his cool, even as Bludhaven could be destroyed depending on his choices. It creates a sense of constant action even if we don’t get actual fighting. This leads to an ending that shows this arc will change the foundation of this series moving forward.

Overall Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10

Comic Book Reviews 1/21/26: Planet She-Hulk #3PLANET SHE-HULK #3

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Stephanie Phillips

Artist: Emilio Laiso

Colorist: Sonia Oback

Letterer: Joe Caramagna

The Game of Thrones level backstabbing on Sakaar goes to another level in Planet She-Hulk #3. With She-Hulk’s presence proving to be the biggest true challenge to Korven Blackjaw’s status as the planet’s new ruler we see political moves taken. These political moves create some interesting challenges She-Hulk has to overcome that will take more than strength to deal with. That is something different for planet like Sakaar that has such deep warrior values. What the final page in particular leads to a good hook ending that keeps us guessing what’s next.

Overall Rating: 7.5 Night Girls out of 10

Comic Book Reviews 1/21/26: Rogue #1ROGUE #1

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Erica Schultz

Artist: Luigi Zagaria

Colorist: Espen Grundetjern

Letterer: Ariana Maher

Rogue #1 is a strong debut that shows exactly why the title character deserves her own series. Rogue has grown to be character that can easily carry a story. Whether it is through her actions as an X-Men or the dynamic she shares with Gambit and others in her life, there is so much to want to see Rogue’s journey. Adding in the complexities with her powers and teasing secrets that Mystique and Destiny kept from her creates a strong foundation for this series to build on top of.

Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10

Comic Book Reviews 1/21/26: VR Troopers #6VR TROOPERS #6

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Mairghread Scott

Artist: Sebastian Piriz

Colorist: JP Jordan

Letterer: Taylor Esposito

VR Troopers #6 is a nice, solid end to this mini-series that ends up just lacking the punch to get to that next level. The pacing was solid to make everything that happens in this finale a culmination of everything that’s happened with Ryan Steele’s family at the center of this story. The action we do get is dynamic but short. It leads to a second half that feels rushed because we couldn’t get into everything this mini-series wanted to. That is seen with the final few pages going with more the classic “were a team” vibe even though the team dynamic was not the focus of the story.

Overall Rating: 6 Night Girls out of 10
