ABSOLUTE WONDER WOMAN #3
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Kelly Thompson
Artist: Hayden Sherman
Colorist: Jordie Bellaire
Letterer: Becca Carey
Absolute Wonder Woman #3 is an excellent character exploration comic book that dives deeper ito who Diana Prince is. In the process you can’t help but get further behind this version of Wonder Woman. There is such great depth to the character that you want to see how she goes about taking on all challenges. That is thanks to how her past feeds into the way she goes about speaking and inspiring others in the present. So while this isn’t an action heavy issue what it does to build up Wonder Woman elevates this series even more.
Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #64
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Justina Ireland
Artist: Gleb Melnikov
Colorist: Marcio Menyz
Letterer: Joe Caramaga
Amazing Spider-Man #64 is the strongest chapter of The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man storyline we’ve had thus far. Justina Ireland does a great job understanding how to use this storyline to have Peter Parker show growth as Spider-Man. Combine that with Gleb Melnikov and Marcio Menyz’s vibrant artwork and the interest in this storyline is as high as its been since it was first announced. Click here to read full review.
Overall Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10
DETECTIVE COMICS #1092
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Tom Taylor
Artist: Mikel Janin
Letterer: Wes Abbott
As he did with his run on Nightwing, Tom Taylor is expertly finding a strong balance between Batman and Bruce Wayne. The way he writes the character in Detective Comics #1092 emphasizes how Batman and Bruce are an extension of one another, rather than one being the dominant version. This balance creates greater intrigue for how Bruce goes about using his newly vibrant personal life to investigate the new villain. Adding in Damian Wayne and Barbara Gordon added to the freshness of how this story is being handled. Everything makes you fully invested in what is going on in Gotham City right now.
Overall Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10
JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED #2
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Mark Waid
Artist: Dan Mora
Colorist: Tamra Bonvillain
Letterer: Ariana Maher
Justice League Unlimited #2 is no doubt about it home run follow-up to its debut issue. Mark Waid and Dan Mora masterfully juggle multiple plotlines with a massive cast without any issue. Everything about this comic book feels like reading a big event, exactly how the Justice League should be presented. Click here to read full review.
Overall Rating: 9.5 Night Girls out of 10
TIMESLIDE #1
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Steve Fox
Artist: Ivan Fiorelli
Colorist: Frank D’Armata
Letterer: Joe Caramagna
FINAL THOUGHTS
Timeslide is ultimately a get the job done comic book. The adventure Bishop and Cable are sent on is ultimately predictable without a major twist. The only thing really accomplished is teasing out the names of storylines expected in 2025. Even then this teaser is presented in the most boring way possible. You can most certainly not worry about having missed out on something if you did not read this comic book. Click here to read full review.
Overall Rating: 4 Night Girls out of 10
ULTIMATE BLACK PANTHER #11
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Bryan Hill
Artist: Carlos Nieto
Colorist: David Curiel
Letterer: Cory Petit
The Moon Knight storyline that has dominated Ultimate Black Panther’s entire comic book existence has outstayed its welcome. That is certainly the feeling reading Ultimate Black Panther #11. The series is just stuck dealing with the Moon Knight threat that the world building is stuck in place. There is a constant feeling that we are just stuck in place with every character and even when we get some action it’s just loud noises to cover up not being able to progress. Not even the chemistry of the series can overcome this problem. The sooner this series moves on from this Moon Knight story the better it will be for the entire cast.
Overall Rating: 3 Night Girls out of 10
VOID RIVALS #15
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Robert Kirkman
Artist: Lorenzo De Felici
Colorist: Patricio Delpeche
Letterer: Rus Wooton
Void Rivals #15 delivers a chapter that progresses various plotlines running concurrently. The way these stories progress provide a good idea of how everything will eventually collide. This in turn makes Darak and Solila continue to be compelling leads as their importance to that progress is always at the top of mind. It was a strong way to end the year and set up 2025 for even greater success for the Energon Universe. Click here to read full review.
Overall Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10
X-MEN #9
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Jed MacKay
Artists: Federico Vicentini and Ryan Stegman
Inkers: Federico Vicentini and JP Mayer
Colorists: Marte Gracia and Fer Sifuentes-Sujo
Letterer: Clayton Cowles
X-Men #9 handles the “Raid On Graymalkin” storyline to progress multiple angles we’ve seen running through the X-Men: From the Ashes direction. From the dynamics between the two X-Men teams to the continued build up Doctor Corina Ellis as a villain you love to hate, this had a little bit of everything you want from a comic book. The way Cyclops and Rogue, as the leaders of their respective teams, interact does well to build on their respective character arcs. It all made the ending with the reveal involving Charles Xavier being strong hook ending to set up bigger things in 2025.
