DC Comics December 2026 solicitations have arrived! With them we get even more hints at how DC Comics plans to close out its year and start 2027. With the close of the year we are getting the close of Tom King’s Wonder Woman run. We will also see major character developments for Wally West’s Flash, Batman, Absolute Superman, and other DCU characters taking place. Find out what they are with our breakdown of the ten biggest takeaways from DC Comics December 2026 solicitations.
10) DEATHSTROKE VS THE GREEN LANTERNS
The Green Lanters have a lot of trouble dealing with what is going across the entire DC Universe. But in December their biggest problem may be one that is close to home for all the Earth Green Lanterns. That problem comes in the form of Deathstroke.
The solicitation for Deathstroke The Terminator #10 shows that Slade Wilson will come into conflict with a Green Lantern. It is heavily implied by the variant cover that the Green Lantern will be John Stewart. This is a match-up we don’t see often so it could be a chance to really see what Deathstroke can do against one of the best Green Lanterns.
9) IMPACT OF DEATH OF BRUCE WAYNE TO BATMAN
The assassination of Bruce Wayne that is taking place in Matt Fraction’s Batman series puts a major question around the character. That is what happens when Bruce returns to being Batman full-time. Over the last few years we’ve seen Bruce put in an effort to not spend his entire time being Batman. More importantly, he has put a focus on being more part of the lives of the Batman Family.
That development could be undone with Bruce now spending all his time as Batman while figuring out his assassin. Especially if the assassination of Bruce Wayne gets him more involved with all the things going on in the Gotham City underworld. The things Batman discovers could make him place even more focus on his Dark Knight adventures. It wouldn’t be the first time and that could all start with Batman #16.
8) DEATH OF THE CENTRAL POWER BATTERIES
The impact of Hal Jordan’s quest around the Book of Oa mystery will have severe consequences. The solicitation for Green Lantern #42 shows that Central Power Batteries on Oa will lose their power. That will cause the Starbreakers to break free, leaving all the Lanterns backs against the Source Wall.
Any change to the Central Power Batteries would be a big one. Afterall, we just got the return of all the Lantern Corps after years of chaos in the emotional spectrum. Though I guess it wouldn’t be an emotional spectrum without chaos. That is just the normal state of the Green Lantern franchise at this point.
7) ZATANNA STARTS NEW CAREER AS MAGICAL SPY
Zatanna’s time as the Prime Magnus is going to be getting a whole lot more complicated in December. That is thanks to not getting any time to recover after what the White Cove are putting her through during the Fall season. Right after the conflict with the White Coven she is going to have to deal with the DEO.
The DEO being the next villains that Zatanna needs to deal with is an intriguing way to expand the DC Universe’s magic side. The DEO creating their own magic division, called the Occult Affairs, shows that the rest of the DCU is taking the magical conflicts seriously. With how long characters like Zatanna has been around you would’ve thought this would happen earlier.
This development will test Zatanna’s standing as the Prime Magnus. We will see what authority she has or can have in all this. Though first she has to pull her best Agent Grayson tricks as she goes undercover to find out what is going on in Zatanna #9.
6) WALLY WEST LOSES HIS SPEED FORCE POWERS
Wally West took things to the extreme in using his Speed Force powers to stop crimes before they even happened. He is learning the lesson that Tony Stark is constantly learning. That is that while he may have the power that can make him a God it does not mean he should be one. It is a lesson he’ll learn the hard way as Wally West will be depowered.
Wally suddenly being depowered does not mean he won’t be the focus of The Flash series. At least The Flash #40 hints that the series will continue to focus on Wally and his family even after the December issue. For a period we will see what Wally does without his powers and if he could possibly be worthy of regaining his Speed Force powers.
5) BATMAN FAMILY MEMBER JOINS THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES
You aren’t a DC Comics superhero team without a Batman Family member. No matter what time period that team is in a Batman Family member is required. That’s at least what the Legion of Super-Heroes will be learning in December as Bat Lad joins the team.
The way Bat Lad is presented in Legion of Super-Heroes #4 solicitation and cover does point to him being more anti-hero. Which wouldn’t be surprising as even in the future someone from the Batman Family would still fall in that side of the heroes.
What we don’t know is if this new Batman Family member has an actual tie to Batman. The design for the character does hint that he may have some Wayne Family blood in him. But given that he is wearing a Robin costume he could be inspired to use whatever powers he has by the tales of original Dynamic Duo. It would be different from many in the Legion of Super-Heroes being inspired by Superman.
4) POISON IVY NO MORE
Poison Ivy losing by the end of the Bad Seeds crossover is not surprising. The story was made to be her quick downfall after just a few months after becoming Mayor of Gotham City. What is surprising is what Poison Ivy #50 revealed.
That revelation is that post-Bad Seeds Pamela Isley will be losing her powers. This may not be simply that Batman or Vandal Savage found a way to depower. Rather, given how Bad Seeds started, Pamela losing her Poison Ivy powers could have to deal with the Green. She has gone to extremes to assert her power over Gotham City. Her actions to gain more power could very well be what backfires and her failures in defeating Batman and Vandal Savage could play a role in that.
To make her situation worse, the depowered Pamela Isley will be locked up in Arkham Towers. This will be the first time in a long time where we will simply focus on Pamela Isley. Who she is without her powers or connection to the Green could lead to some very interesting character development.
3) STEPHANIE BROWN GETS NEW IDENTITY POST-BAD SEEDS
One of the biggest ramifications in the post-Bad Seeds world for the Batman Family looks to be Stephanie Brown leaving the family. That is at least what is teased in the solicitation for Gangs of Gotham #2. Not only is Stephanie Brown seemingly leaving the Batman Family but she is also leaving behind her Batgirl/Spoiler identity. She will be getting a whole new identity calling herself Clu, after her father the Cluemaster.
Based on how things are going in this era for the Batman Family it won’t be surprising if Stephanie is following in Barbara Gordon’s footsteps. The events that take place in Bad Seeds could show Stephanie that she also needs to find out how Gotham City is evolving from a different perspective.
This would be a major change that could have greater impact than just for the Batman Family. Afterall, we’ve seen that Stephanie Brown has recently become a member of the Titans. Not only that but Nightwing is training her to become the next leader of the Titans to further her growth. Stephanie deciding to go deep undercover, adopting a new identity and look, could derail that part of her character arc.
2) ABSOLUTE SUPERMAN LEAVES EARTH
Showing the impact that the “Get Brainiac” will have we find out in Absolute Superman #26 solicitation that Kal-El will be leaving Earth. Specifically it is stated that he will have “abandoned the Earth.” Those are strong words to use for the Last Son of Krypton. Up to this point we have seen Kal-El make a lot of effort into calling Earth his home. Whatever happens during “Get Brainiac” could alter everything for Absolute Superman.
If Absolute Superman does in fact leave Earth to explore the universe it puts into question what’s next for him. Going out into the unknown alone will not help his mental state as we’ve seen how far he has pushed himself.
At the same time, this could be an opportunity to explore the greater Absolute Universe. We’ve largely stayed on Earth when it comes to the Absolute Universe. Absolute Superman exploring the rest of the universe could open the possibility to find out more about how Darkseid has altered things in this universe.
1) TOM KING’S WONDER WOMAN RUN COMES TO AN END
When Tom King became the new Wonder Woman writer the plan was for the creative run to last 100 issues. That is something he spoke about in a recent interview with AIPT. Tom King is going to fall 60 issues short of that 100 issue goal as his creative run comes to an end with December’s Wonder Woman #40.
Tom King’s Wonder Woman run coming to end quicker than he thought is not all that surprising. Professionally, King has become even busier than when he started his Wonder Woman run. He has been specifically helping out a lot more on the DC Universe content going on under James Gunn’s leadership. He collaborated with the writers and director of the Supergirl movie. He is also part of the well-regarded Lanterns. He is also the showrunner for the upcoming Mister Miracle animated series.
That is on top of other outside comic book projects he is working on. The Mister Miracle showrunner job alone is a full-time job that would leave little room to work on long-term comic book work. So it wouldn’t be surprising if in general Tom King steps away from ongoing comics and focuses his comic book work on mini-series or maxi-series.
When it comes to just his Wonder Woman run, it has been extremely divisive. There has been no middle ground to it. You either love it or hate it. And if there was a middle ground that has long disappeared as we got deeper into his Wonder Woman run. Personally, a big problem with his run has been that it has been completely focused on the Sovereign story. He never showed to have more than that one idea for Wonder Woman. So it is honestly better it ends at Wonder Woman #40 rather than it get stretched out for another 60 issues just so he reached his goal of a 100 issue run.
