The summer months continue to be red hot in the comic book world as DC Comics, Marvel, Archie, Image and more brought their A-games throughout July 2017. As July went on we saw what plans DC Comics and Marvel had for their big events as both Dark Nights: Metal and Secret Empire continued their development. On top of that we found out the true fate of Betty Cooper, the return of a classic X-Men member, broken alliances and much more. Now let’s take a look at all the best moments July 2017 delivered.
ALL-NEW WOLVERINE #22

Baby Groot finally has someone that understands him other than Rocket Raccoon. Gabby is probably a better influence on Groot to. Maybe he’ll now grow up to be a regular superhero tree.
ALL-STAR BATMAN #12

Surprise. Surprise. Batman is not the original “Dark Knight” of the DC Universe. He just stole that from one of Alfred’s stories. He better lawyer up because someone will looking to collect on the copyright infringement.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #30

Say hello to the biggest contribution that Peter Parker’s Spider-Man will make to the Secret Empire event. At least he was able to get all the next generation heroes a few more hours before Captain Hydra got a hold of them.
ARCHIE #22

Betty Cooper escapes death’s door and is now set-up for an even bigger arc as she has to live life as a paraplegic. This is a big change for one of the most iconic comic book characters. How Betty and all the characters from the world of Archie deal with it will be very interesting to see.
ASTONISHING X-MEN #1

Gotta give it to old Professor Xavier. The guy has more lives than a cat. That or maybe he has more than just one twin brother that happens to look exactly like him and is in a coma.
BATGIRL #13

With the Internet’s love of cats it’s surprising that Catwoman isn’t the richest woman in the DC Universe. Catwoman is one of those characters made to make the most out of the social media world.
BATMAN #26

How do you build a villain to be a complete badass? Have them walk through a park while talking to another villain as you simultaneously take out a bunch of mercenaries hired to kill you.
BATMAN # 27

Who would’ve ever thought that in a story called “War of Jokes and Riddles” where Joker and Riddler are the key figures that Kite Man would come out being the most intriguing character? If you did why didn’t you warn us?
DARK DAYS: THE CASTING #1

The surprising thing here is that Hal Jordan is surprised that Batman would keep a secret that even the Guardians believe endangers the entire universe. This is Batman, he doesn’t care what others think.
HAL JORDAN AND THE GREEN LANTERN CORPS #25

With one name change Soranik becomes one of the most terrifying characters whose bad side you don’t want to be on. And this name change is just in time as we see teases of Sinestro making his big return sooner rather than later.
INVINCIBLE #138

Invincible has been a series that has teased characters deaths multiple times but with this being the final story arc of the series seeing Omni-Man “killed” by Thragg feels permanent.
IRON FIST #5

Showing why he is the true Iron Fist is how Danny Rand should have been portrayed in the TV show. Hopefully the showrunners are taking note of this volume of Iron Fist.
MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #17

Though we are seeing more hints of it in superhero comics it is not often said outloud how heroes find their personal lives boring after going on fantastical adventures. Trini and Kimberly talking about this with each other is a breathe of fresh air, especially after Trini was the big hero of the previous arc.
NIGHTWING #24

More and more we are seeing Nightwing do things that are normally reserved for Batman. Seeing Nightwing go defeat multiple villains from various other DC superheroes rogues gallery is yet another showcase in that.
NIGHTWING #25

His relationship and break-up with Shawn is probably the trigger Dick Grayson needs to realize that Nightwing is who he is just like Bruce and Batman are one and the same.
OLD MAN LOGAN #26

A Hulk Shower has to be the worst kind of rain you can get in the Marvel Universe.
PETER PARKER: THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN #2

Someone needs to get Spider-Man a fashion magazine or something so he knows not to wear that outfit on a first date.
SECRET EMPIRE #6

There’s something about a good old slobberknocker involving the Hulk and Thing fighting that never gets old. Even in this squash match during Secret Empire it was fun seeing them go at it.
SECRET EMPIRE #7

Just like that we have our first real big death in Secret Empire. It only took 7 issues plus a #0 and Free Comic Book Day issue but here it is. And the first big death that we all know will be wiped out as there is no way Marvel is killing off Black Widow going into Avengers: Infinity War.
SPIDER-MEN II #1

When we learned that there was a Miles Morales in the 616-Universe an older scarred up version of the character is not the first thing that came to mind or the 2,999 thought for that matter.
SPIDER-GWEN #22

With this act we are one step closer to Venom-Gwen. And we all know how that went for Peter Parker in the normal Marvel Universe.
SUPER SONS #6

And the award for greatest comic book diss of the year goes to Clark Kent calling out Bruce Wayne on not only his fathering skills but also his superhero fashion sense.
SUPERMAN #26

Just love how no matter what DC Universe we are in Pa Kent is still one of the most influential men in Superman’s life. This heart to heart with Jon just drives that home as now Superman is stepping up to be a father.
SUPERMAN #27

Superboy’s first mistake was saying he wanted to bring his Xbox on the road trip. We all know Superman is on the winning side of the Playstation 4.
