Comic Book Reviews: Black Cat #6BLACK CAT #6

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: G. Willow Wilson

Artist: Adres Genolet

Colorist: Brian Reber

Letterer: Joe Caramagna

After establishing Felicia Hardy’s new status quo with the first story arc of this series Black Cat #6 gives us a fun one-shot style story. We are still dealing with the vampire involved plotline but the approach G. Willow Wilson and Adres  Genolet take is one of being able to drop into the story. It certainly helps that Black Cat recruits Daredevil to have Matt Murdock act as her lawyer. Their dynamic as they deal with a vampire filled court room is a fun one. And it leads to helping to set the tone moving forward as we are out of the first arc of this series.

Comic Book Reviews: Blood & Thunder #9BLOOD & THUNDER #9

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Benito Cereno

Artist: E.J. Su

Colorist: Msassyk

Letterer: Rus Wooton

Switching the setting to the wilderness has been the exact chance this series has needed. Blood & Thunder #9 shows exactly why with Blood leading a clan of Thri-kreen-like villagers against the mercenaries hunting her. This creates an opportunity for E.J. Su to deliver the best artwork we have gotten from Blood & Thunder so far. The great artwork helps to elevate not just the action but also the personal interactions Blood has. Adding these interactions with others helps to ground Blood as a character that’s more than a cool mercenary.

Comic Book Reviews: DC K.O. #3DC K.O. #3

CREATIVE TEAM

Writers: Scott Snyder and Joshua Williamson

Artists: Javi Fernandez and Xermanico

Colorist: Alejandro Sanchez

Letterer: Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou

DC K.O. #3 is exactly the chapter this series has needed for four months. Scott Snyder and Javi Fernandez did a great job stagging the four tag team fights to get over the stakes of the tournament. In the process all eight participants put over as to why they made it this far. This in turn helped establish the final four as having strong arguments for being the winner of the King Omega title. That along with the ending showing the Absolute Universe coming into play creates a great amount of momentum for the second half of this event. Click here to read the full review.

Comic Book Reviews: G.I. JOE #17G.I. JOE #17

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Joshua Williamson

Artist: Tom Reilly

Colorist: Jordie Bellaire

Letterer: Rus Wooton

G.I. JOE #17 is a fantastic end to the Dreadnok War. Joshua Williamson and Tom Reilly nail how big the final battle of this story needed to be to show why this was an event. Everyone involved comes out better, whether it is by chemistry or interest level. The multiple hook endings kick off 2026 as strong as possible for the Energon Universe. Comic Book Reviews: Green Lantern Corps #12GREEN LANTERN CORPS #12

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Morgan Hampton

Artists: Fernando Pasarin, Will Conrad, Oclair Albert, and Jason Paz

Colorists: Arif Prianto and Ian Herring

Letterer: Dave Sharpe

Morgan Hampton continues to impress with how many different plotlines that are being managed in Green Lantern Corps. While there is a lot going on with various groups on Oa and throughout the DCU, there is an order that helps keep a control with the pacing of the story. It is an instance where having dedicated artists for each segment of Green Lantern Corps #12 goes a long way. It shows the variety of the franchise with Guy and Kilowog training new recruits, John and Jessica dealing with Larfleeze, and Aya’s spiritual adventure with the Indigo Lantern Corps. Everything helps to get over the big scale the Green Lantern Corps continue deal with in their new status quo.

Comic Book Reviews: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #14TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #14

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Gene Luen Yang

Artist: Freddie E. Williams II

Colorist: Andrew Dalhouse

Letterer: Shawn Lee

The game continues to change for the Hamato Clan in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #14. This may be one of the biggest game changing issues since the 100th issue of the previous volume of this series. The mystery of Ujigami that’s not much of a mystery to us as the reader but is for the Turtles and the world is the main hook. In not keeping things a secret from us but the characters involved Gene Luen Yang and Freddie Williams are able to deliver an action packed issue that keeps tensions high. The high tension as the Turtles are forced to defend their enemies in order to confront Ujigami leads to an ending that creates a lot of questions around the direction things are going.

Comic Book Reviews: Transformers #28TRANSFORMERS #28

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Robert Kirkman

Artist: Dan Mora

Colorist: Mike Spicer

Letterer: Rus Wooton

Things continue to escalate as Megatron descends more into the Mad King of the Decepticons and Arcee gets a major transformation in Transformers #28. Those two things would be more than enough to make this yet another great chapter of this series. Arcee in particular goes through a change that hopefully makes her more of a lead character in Transformers. Then you add in the tough choices Optimus Prime has to make, Spike and Carly making moves, and the military taking action, there is just a lot to be engrossed by. It all creates a strong start to 2026 for the Energon Universe’s Transformers.

Comic Book Reviews: The Ultimates #20THE ULTIMATES #20

CREATIVE TEAM

Writer: Deniz Camp

Artist: Phil Noto

Colorist: Edgar Delgado

Letterer: Travis Lanham

The Ultimates #20 certainly lives up to its promise to giving us Ultimate Vision’s backstory and more insight into Ultimate Nick Fury. Deniz Camp fills the comic book with a lot of information to show why Ultimate Vision’s backstory will play a key role in Ultimate Endgame. Though Camp goes so far filling in the holes that the writing never lets the artwork breathe and help tell the story. There are moments that would’ve been more powerful if certain panels or pages were simply Phil Noto’s art telling the story. Lacking that balance hurts the overall flow of the story that could’ve benefited from being tighter.

Comic Book Reviews: Uncanny X-Men #22UNCANNY X-MEN #22

CREATIVE TEAM

Writers: Gail Simone

Artists: David Marquez

Colorist: Matthew Wilson

Letterer: Clayton Cowles

Gail Simone and David Marquez pick up where they left off with Uncanny X-Men #22 reminding everyone why this is the best current ongoing series for the franchise. The dynamics between the team is perfectly showcased as they gather to celebrate Nightcrawler’s birthday. This provides us with an opportunity for Nightcrawler to also further establish his relationship with MacKenzie Deener. Then there is the return of Mutina that shows us the two different ways of approaching a threat that Wolverine and Nightcrawler have. You completely understand why Wolverine and Nightcrawler would react to Mutina the way they do. It helps further present Mutina as a compelling character and further show why the character dynamics are key to this series’ success.

Comic Book Reviews: Wonder Woman: Black & Gold Special 2026WONDER WOMAN: BLACK AND GOLD SPECIAL 2026

Writers: Tom King, Mitch Gerards, Alyssa Wong, Steve Orlando, and Jordie Bellaire

Artists: Mitch Gerards, Karen S. Darboe, Rossi Gifford, and Paulina Ganucheau

Letterers: Clayton Cowls, Steve Wands, Pat Brosseau, and Becca Carey

Wonder Woman: Black and Gold Special 2026 shows exactly why an anthology comic book can be a powerful thing. Especially for characters like Wonder Woman who don’t have second titles, having an anthology is an opportunity for different creators to tell stories with iconic characters. Each story in this Black and Gold 2026 special taps into different aspects of what makes Wonder Woman special. Whether it is how she saves the day or connects with others, each story hit on what you want to see Wonder Woman do.
