Marvel Comics December 2026 solicitations are here! With it we get hints at how Marvel will be dealing with the aftermath of both the Armageddon and DNX events. The answer to that appears to be a heavy reliance on both the Spider-Man and X-Men franchise. Both franchises appear to be dominating the future for Marvel even with the release of Avengers: Doomsday that same month in theaters.
What are the Spider-Man and X-Men titles to look out for? And are there any Avengers or other franchises in Marvel’s library that standout? Find out with our breakdown of the ten big takeaways from Marvel Comics December 2026 solicitations.
10) BOOM-BOOM RISES AND MAKES FUGITIVES OUT OF X-FORCE
What happens when the X-Men finally give Boom-Boom the opportunity to lead her own team? Well, she quickly turns that team into fugitives. That’s at least what we see as Boom-Boom takes over leadership of the X-Force. As soon as she does the team becomes known as the Fugitive X-Force.
This new Fugitive X-Force team appears to be the next stage of Tim Seeley’s X-Force story centered around Cable. With Fugitive X-Force, the series starts with Cable’s mind having been compromised. And that might not be the worst case scenario for Cable as something darker is teased that will be discovered by Domino about the former X-Force leader. If that is the case than Boom-Boom could certainly use this as an opportunity that she is ready to be a leader.
9) BLACK WIDOW GETS A NEW SERIES
A consequence of the MCU version of Natasha Romanoff being killed off is that it means Marvel Comics has stopped pushing her as a core part of their universe. While we have had several series involving Black Widow it is noticeable she is no longer pushed in Marvel’s marketing. That said, whenever Marvel has given Black Widow a solo series they are usually some of the best comics they release.
That could very well be the case with the new Black Widow: Black, White & Red Room mini-series. Part of the Black, White, and Blood anthology series, this new mini-series will feature various one-shot stories from different writers. For the first issue we will see Devin Grayson return to tell a story with Black Widow. Stephanie Phillips and Jeremy Whitley will also be telling one-shot stories in the first issue. They will be joined by an artist line-up that includes JG Jones, Giuseppe Camuncoli, and Bradley Clayton.
8) MARVEL COMICS DECEMBER SOLICITATIONS HIT BY INCURSIONS
Marvel is not going to be letting the opportunity created by Avengers: Doomsday go. They are going to make the full opportunity of the fact the term of Incursion is going to be a buzzword in December to their advantage. Case in point, Marvel will have two series releasing with the word in the title. Those two titles come in the form of Fantastic Four: Incursions #1 and Spider-Man: Incursions #1.
On the Fantastic Four: Incursion side of things we see that this series is going to also involve the Hulk. Rather than dealing with the Interdimensional Council of Reeds, we see the incursion for this series being caused by alternate universe version Bruce Banner who combines cosmic and gamma radiation to create a new Fantastic Four.
Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Incursion goes the more obvious route of utilizing the Spider-Verse. Leading the series are two obvious choices in Spider-Gwen and Mayday Parker. Outside than Miles Morales and Ultimate Peter Parker, these are the two most successful alternate universe Spider-Man characters. We also haven’t had Spider-Gwen and Mayday’s Spider-Girl meet in a substantial way. So this will be a fresh story that will attract many Spider-Man fans.
7) PAUL JENKINS RETURNS WITH THIRD WOLVERINE: ORIGIN SERIES
The original Wolverine: Origin series is one of the most iconic game changing stories for Wolverine’s story. That is for both good and bad depending on who you talk to. It is the comic book that led to Marvel finally going all in on exploring the previously unknown history of Wolverine. Since the release of Wolverine: Origin in 2001 we’ve learned a lot about Logan from his real name to how long he has been really around.
Now Marvel is revisiting the title with a third part in the series titled Wolverine: Origin III – The Dark Age. Wolverine: Origin III will see the return of writer Paul Jenkins, writer of the original Origin mini-series. He will be joined by artist Cafu.
For Wolverine: Origin III will tell the story of Logan’s time in the 1950s after he participated in the two World Wars. For a man we have learned a lot about we don’t know much about this period of Logan’s life. It could explore more not just about Logan but how this was an early flashpoint for the Marvel Universe in a post-Captain America world.
6) BRIAN BENDIS & MICHAEL GAYDOS REUNITE FOR JESSICA JONES: ALIAS
It is crazy to think that Brian Bendis and Michael Gaydos’ Alias series happened 25 years ago. Seeing the solicitation for Jessica Jones: Alias and it promoting the 25th anniversary is one of those moments that you think of how quickly time flies. The original Alias series was one I randomly picked up when it originally released back in the day and was my introduction to both Bendis and Gaydos.
With Bendis back in the Marvel fold it is not surprising that they would reunite him with Gaydos to celebrate the 25th anniversary by releasing a new mini-series. Jessica Jones can certainly use a great mini-series to remind many why she was a character that was pushed in the 2000s and Netflix’s MCU shows. And if Bendis and Gaydos can tap into the magic of the original Alias this new mini-series should do just that.
5) SPIDER-MAN STORY ALMOST 30 YEARS IN THE MAKING FINALLY TOLD
One of the biggest untold Spider-Man stories in the character’s history is the one from the 90s animated series. That is the story of Spider-Man saving Mary Jane Watson from whatever dimension she ended up in. The show ended with the cliffhanger that Madame Web would help Spider-Man find MJ after he overcame the Secret Wars and Clone Saga events. We unfortunately never got that story.
Recently, we got hope that we would finally get that story with the recent Spider-Man ’94 mini-series. That mini-series didn’t tell us how Spider-Man rescued MJ. Instead it took place directly after Spider-Man had already saved MJ from the dimension she got stuck in.
Now finally in December we are getting the story of Spider-Man saving MJ in the form of Spider-Man ’94 Annual by John Semper and Alessio Cammardella. John Semper getting the chance to tell the story he never got to tell in the animated series is fitting. He was the showrunner for the 90s Spider-Man: The Animated Series. This should give both him and fans of the animated series the closure we have been looking forward to for almost 30 years.
4) IRON MAN GOING THROUGH PRISON BREAK EXPERIENCE
While not an official rebrand, Joshua Williamson is starting a new direction for the Iron Man series with “The Incarcerated Iron Man” storyline. This new storyline is being broken up into two story arcs that are taking place at the same time. They are “The Incarcerated Iron Man” and “War Machines” that will happen in alternating issues.
At least to kick things off we see that these two story arcs happening in Iron Man will be the twelfth and thirteenth issue releasing in December. Does this mean that Iron Man is shifting into a bi-monthly series? We will have to wait to see with January through March’s solicitations. It is a pace that Joshua Williamson has proven in the past to be able to handle, though he has a lot of work at the moment to juggle. “The Incarcerated Iron Man” is also being drawn by Carmen Carnero while “War Machines” is drawn by Gleb Melnikov so that will help if Iron Man will be a bi-monthly series for four months.
From a story perspective “The Incarcerated Iron Man” and “War Machines” appear to be telling a new version of the Armor Wars storyline. This is a natural progression for the current direction of the series. It will further explore how Tony Stark’s actions over the years have severe consequences and he will finally deal with them. Unfortunately for those closest to Tony, like Rhodey/War Machine, it will mean they will have to also deal with the consequences.
3) X-MEN DEAL WITH POST-DNX FALLOUT
December will be a tough time for the X-Men. The month will see the franchise dealing with the fallout for both Armageddon and DNX crossover events. For Armageddon, the team is responding by forming the Maximum X-Men to help out the Avengers. That looks to be the easiest thing they’ll have to do. The tougher thing will be in dealing with the fallout of DNX.
Right away we see that whatever major death happens by the end of DNX it will have a ripple effect on various X-Men titles. The one that will be hit the hardest with the main X-Men series where there will be a battle of leadership of the team. That is due to Magneto regaining full control again and possibly clashing with Cyclops, who has put a lot on his shoulders post-Krakoa Era.
Cyclops appears to be getting some back-up in the form of Jean Grey, who is returning to Earth. Along with her solo series it looks like Jean is join Cyclops’ X-Men team. She can certainly help Cyclops from putting everything on him. It is also the balance the X-Men may need as Cyclops and Jean view leadership from very different perspectives while still being a united front, at least if recent years have proven.
Then meanwhile, in Uncanny X-Men we see that the New Mutants will be going through their own Weapon X experience. That is if the cover for Uncanny X-Men #40 is to be believed. Which should be a major test for Quicksilver and Monet as most of the veterans X-Men from this series are moving on to other comics.
2) SPIDER-MAN MAKES HIS PRESENCE FELT IN THE AVENGERS
A notable standout in the Avengers roster was the fact that we have Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Daredevil on the roster. Spider-Man and Wolverine were previously used during Brian Bendis run on the franchise while Daredevil has only ever been an honorary Avenger. So it is definitely notable that Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto made these three as part of the new core Avengers team.
Now in December we see why Zdarsky and Checchetto added Spider-Man to the roster as Avengers #2 is a story all about him. Or should I say it is all about Aunt May. As the solicitation for Avengers #2 states that Mephisto is back to haunt Spider-Man and that puts Aunt May in danger. This time around Spider-Man won’t be alone to deal with Mephisto as he will have the Avengers to back him up.
Having the second issue of the new Avengers series center around Mephisto puts into question what Zdarsky and Checchetto’s greater plans for the series are. At least with how the roster is set-up we don’t have a magic based hero on the Avengers to make the supernatural element of the Marvel Universe a natural part of the series. That is unless Sorcerer Supreme Scarlet Witch will join the series soon, especially as her ongoing just ended. Having Mephisto this early on points to something even bigger building in 2027 for the new Avengers series.
1) THE X-MEN GO MAXIMUM POST-ARMAGEDDON
It says a lot about how Marvel views the upcoming Avengers roster that they market another series with the line “In the absence of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.” That is exactly the shade that Marvel threw at the new Avengers team in the solicitation for Maximum X-Men #1. While not a good look for the new Avengers team it furthers the fact that Marvel is investing heavily on the X-Men franchise.
The new Maximum X-Men team also makes much more sense for both Storm and Wolverine to be a part of. While they have spent time on the Avengers, the fact is they are more at home with the X-Men. Storm and Wolverine have also shown they are best when put in leadership position. And if there are two X-Men leaders that you can believe will get along with a shared vision it is Storm and Wolverine thanks to their shared history.
The roster of Storm, Wolverine, Colossus, Bishop, Iceman, Psylocke, Firestar, and Justice is a great balance. We got plenty of heavy hitters that you believe can take on any type of Avengers-level or X-Men-level threat. They are also not to overpowered that you won’t believe the villains they will face are threats. The mix of personalities should also make for an intriguing dynamic.
