BATWOMAN #1
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Greg Rucka
Artist: Dani
Colorist: Matt Hollingsworth
Letterer: Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou
Batwoman #1 is an excellent example of how to debut a new series. Greg Rucka and Dani find a way to welcome in new readers and welcome back long-time fans of Kate Kane. They do so by providing insight into what makes Kate tick both in and out of the Batwoman costume. It is a fascinating character exploration that makes the action we get stand out even more. The action we do get showcase how different the types of villains Batwoman takes on stand out from other Batman Family members. It all works to show that this is going to be a DC Next Level series to not sleep on.

G.I. JOE #20
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Joshua Williamson
Artist: Andrea Milana
Colorist: Lee Loughridge
Letterer: Rus Wooton
Things are never slow in the Energon Universe. Things continue to move forward as shown by G.I. JOE #20. Moving forward in this case is given more importance as we finally see Duke and Optimus meet. The meeting between the leaders of the G.I. JOE and unnamed Autobots group provides a lot of much needed real talk. As big as this meeting is it is the things that continue to be developed around Energon that is what drives things forward. In particular, with the tease we get at the end of a returning character from one of the Energon Universe mini-series before G.I. JOE launched.

NEW TITANS #33
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Tate Brombal
Artist: Sami Basri
Colorist: Adriano Lucas
Letterer: Tom Napolitano
New Titans #33 sets the tone in terms of showing that Tate Brombal knows how to capture the character voices and Sami Basri art style is at home with these characters. But even though that shines through the Groundhogs Day story that dominates the entire issue does not do much. Especially, with the missed opportunity to give this story to one of the other Titans not named Nightwing. Then there is the fact that the new members of the team don’t show up until the very last splash page of this issue. This all creates a story that becomes very repetitive as the fanservice gets old quickly.

NIGHTWING #136
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Dan Watters
Artist: Denys Conan
Inker: Norm Rapmund
Colorist: Fracesco Segala
Letterer: Wes Abbott
The Cirque Du Sin destroyed and create a whole new foundation for Bludhaven to be rebuilt. That includes the city’s resident hero, Nightwing. Having to rebuild also goes for Dick Grayson as Nightwing #136 shows us a character who no longer is flush with cash. This new status quo makes the choice to explore Bludhaven’s history an interesting one. The mystery is made even more intriguing by Denys Corwan artwork that creates a darker tone that is not usually the style this series is known for.

PLANET SHE-HULK #5
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Stephanie Phillips
Artist: Aaron Kuder
Colorist: Sonia Oback
Letterer: Joe Caramagna
Planet She-Hulk #5 delivers the reward for all the build that the power vacuum narrative Imperial created. It is a credit to Stephanie Phillips and Aaron Kuder’s world building that this fifth chapter feels like a reward. She-Hulk is of course the star of the show but you can’t help but be invested the story of the people living in Sakaar. The decisions made by Korven Blackjaw led to a war for Sakaar that has an impact on the decisions every character makes. This leads to a massive challenge that takes all of She-Hulk’s physical and mental strength to overcome. By the end of Planet She-Hulk #5 we are left wondering what the ending means for Jennifer Walters future.

SORCERER SUPREME #4
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Steve Orlando
Artist: Bernard Chang
Colorists: Ruth Redmond, Erick Arciniega, and Rod Fernandes
Letterer: Joe Sabino
Steve Orlando and Bernado Chang continue to knock it out of the park as a creative team, Sorcerer Supreme #4 is yet another example of just that. They create a memorable battle between Scarlet Witch and Agatha Harkness. That battle leads into an even greater dive into the magical realm of the Marvel Universe. The characters that end up showing up are treated with the respect needed to escalate the story being told with Scarlet Witch as the Sorcerer Supreme. The deeper we get into all the magical conflicts the better this series continues to get.

ULTIMATE WOLVERINE #15
CREATIVE TEAM
Writer: Chris Codon
Artist: Alessandro Cappuccio
Colorist: Bryan Valenza
Letterer: Cory Petit
Ultimate Wolverine #15 sets the stage for a brutal finale for the series. Seeing how Ultimate Jean Grey tries to get Wolverine back to normal is an intense affair. Alessandro Cappuccio does a great job at showing how tough a task it is when dealing with a beserk-like Wolverine. But while the Wolverine segments are great the same can’t be said for what is being done with Ultimate Magik. There is development time missing with what is being done with Magik to fully connect with the villain’s story. Hopefully it all comes together in the finale.
