Fall 2022 Anime Guide: 10 Must-Watch Anime Series

2022 has been a great year of anime thus far. Now we are about to begin the Fall 2022 season looks like it is going to be the best of the year with a stacked line-up of anime. From new animes like Chainsaw Man and Blue Lock to long-awaited returns of My Hero Academia and Bleach with new seasons, there is no shortage of things to look forward to. With that said, here are ten anime series that you should be watching this Fall 2022 season

CHAINSAW MAN

Studio: MAPPA

Premiere Date: October 11th

Where To Watch: Crunchyroll

Why You Should Watch It

There is no other place to start when talking about the Fall 2022 anime season than with Chainsaw Man. As Rokk talked about when ranking all the Chainsaw Man story arcs, Chainsaw Man is an incredible manga series. It is one of the most popular mangas that currently running, even being a top seller during Tatsuki Fujimoto’s year and a half break between Part 1 and Part 2. Given the reception the trailers alone have gotten it is no doubt the most anticipated animes of the year. It will be the answer to the question of one anime to watch from 2022.

Adding to how great the Chainsaw Man anime will no doubt be it’s being done by MAPPA. MAPPA is one of the best animation studios around and they are bringing their A+ game for Chainsaw Man. And they no doubt believe how big this anime will be as Chainsaw Man will have a different ending song for each episode. An anime getting 12 different ending songs is something I’ve never seen and just shows how MAPPA and all involved knowing how big Chainsaw Man will be.

BLEACH: THOUSAND-YEAR BLOOD WAR

Studio: Studio Pierrot

Premiere Date: October 10th

Where To Watch: TBD

Why You Should Watch It

As much as I am looking forward to Chainsaw Man, the adaption of Bleach’s Thousand-Year Blood War story arc is right up there for me. This is a long-awaited adaption for Tite Kubo’s final arc for Bleach that we never got as the anime was canceled before it got to this story. We know going into this adaption the Shinigami vs Quincy war will be split into four parts that will air at different anime seasons. Hopefully giving Studio Pierrot enough time to make all the action as high-quality as possible since they don’t have to be on a tight schedule that goes when studios have to work on weekly ongoing anime.

The story arc wasn’t as well received as other Bleach arcs due to different editorial interference and Kubo being burnt out on working on Bleach during the Thousand-Year Blood War arc. That said I think the likely, unplanned break Kubo and Studio Pierrot have had is going to be a good thing for Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War. Kubo in particular will be able to come into this new season refreshed and possibly fix a few things he even had when writing the final arc.

SUZUME NO TOJIMARI

Studio: CoMix Wave Films, Toho

Premiere Date: November 11th (Japan Only); Early 2023 Internationally

Where To Watch: TBA

Why You Should Watch It

Suzume No Tojimari is a new anime movie that will be released only in Japan in November, with its international release set for an early 2023 date. While we won’t be getting the movie until next year Suzume No Tojimari should be on everyone’s radar as it is the latest work from Your Name and Weathering With You director Makoto Shinkai.

Once again writing and directing the film, Shinkai’s Suzume No Tojimari is about a high school girl, Suzume, and a mysterious young man in their journey to stop a disaster from hitting Japan. Once again working with animation studio CoMix Wave Films there is no doubt that Shinkai’s latest film will look beautiful. And if his previous work with Your Name and Weathering With You is to go buy be ready for an emotional ride whenever you do get to watch Makoto Shinkai’s latest film.

MY HERO ACADEMIA SEASON 6

Studio: Bones

Premiere Date: October 1st

Where To Watch: Crunchyroll

Why You Should Watch It

For those that are anime-only My Hero Academia fans I cannot wait to see your reaction to what is about to go down in the sixth season of the series. The Paranormal Liberation War is a game-changing story arc that will be like nothing seen in the series so far. This is saying a lot given the moments there have been in stories like the Shie Hassaikai arc.

I’ll be interested to see how far Bones will be able to push My Hero Academia’s rating for season six. My Hero Academia’s rating falls around TV-14, meaning the series can’t get as gruesome as some of the darker moments are shown to be in the manga. That did create controversy during season five when adapting Tomura Shigaraki’s transformation at the end of the season. The Paranormal Liberation War story is known for having some darker storytelling so how Bones handles those moments in My Hero Academia’s anime will be interesting to see.

SPY X FAMILY SEASON 1: PART 2

Studio: Cloverworks, Wit Studio

Premiere Date: October 1st

Where To Watch: Crunchyroll

Why You Should Watch It

When it comes to top animes for 2022 Spy x Family is no doubt near the top, if not the top, of the list for the year. Part 1 of the anime adaption for Spy x Family was a pure delight. I have no doubt that Part 2 of Spy x Family’s first season will deliver even better episodes. Starting out by adapting the origin of the Forger Family dog, Bond, is a great starting point. The second part will no doubt be a fun time delivered by Cloverworks and Wit Studio.

MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM: THE WITCH FROM MERCURY

Studio: Sunrise

Premiere Date: October 2nd

Where To Watch: Crunchyroll

Why You Should Watch It

The Gundam franchise will always have a special place in my heart as a series that got me into the anime medium at a young age. So I will always be up for a new Gundam anime whenever it comes out. The immediate thing that stands out with the latest Mobile Suit Gundam series is how stunning The Witch From Mercury’s animation style is. The animation has a Studio Ghibli look to it if the prelude episode Sunrise released for The Witch From Mercury is anything to go by.

But the biggest thing about Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury is that it will be the first Gundam series with a female lead. Changing the lead character to be a female named Suletta Mercury should provide a fresh perspective on how we would normally see the main Gundam hero portrayed. Suletta Mercury also is being given one of the more impressive starting Gundams we have seen from the franchise.

BLUE LOCK

Studio: 8bit

Premiere Date: October 8th

Where To Watch: Crunchyroll

Why You Should Watch It

Just in time for the World Cup 2022, we are getting a new soccer anime in the form of Blue Lock. Blue Lock is a series I discovered late last year and have been greatly enjoying. What has made the manga such a different reading experience is how it plays with the concept of friendship that is prevalent in manga storytelling. Blue Lock goes the complete opposite direction as the main character lead is challenged in a team sport like soccer to play selfishly in order to achieve his dream of joining the Japan World Cup team. With the type of character development, we see Blue Lock’s lead go through I wouldn’t be surprised if this is in many people’s top ten list for anime in 2022.

MOB PSYCHO 100 SEASON 3

Studio: Bones

Premiere Date: October 5th

Where To Watch: Crunchyroll

Why You Should Watch It

Mob Psycho is one of those series that is just fun to read and watch. It very much falls under the One Punch Man camp. If you haven’t watched Mob Psycho yet this is a good time to start. Bones has done a great job with the adaption as they get over how the animation style can change from simple comedy to over-the-top action at a drop of a hat. The third season will no doubt continue Mob continues to use his psychic powers in ways that will deliver big wow moments throughout the third season.

ROMANTIC KILLER

Studio: Domerica

Premiere Date: October 27th

Where To Watch: Netflix

Why You Should Watch It

Romantic Killer is an anime I did not know I wanted to watch for the Fall 2022 anime season until Netflix released a trailer for it last week. I was immediately hooked by the core concept of Romantic Killer being about a gamer girl who ends up living out an Otome game life thanks to a surprise appearance from a magician. The comedy we see in the trailer got me immediately hooked. I’m always a sucker for parodies when done well and Romantic Killer looks to be just that for Otome games

DETECTIVE CONAN: THE CULPRIT HANZAWA

Studio: TMS Entertainment

Premiere Date: October 4th

Where To Watch: Netflix

Why You Should Watch It

Detective Conan is similar to One Piece in that there are so many manga chapters and anime episodes that I don’t think I’ll ever catch up. But the great thing about Detective Conan has always been how easy it is to jump in at any point with a new story arc. Now flipping the script on the more detective mystery angle that Detective Conan is the comedy spin-off known as The Culprit Hanzawa.

This Detective Conan spin-off is all about a person that represents the black mystery silhouette of the various culprits that Conan and company run into in the main series. While that would normally mean this would be more of a serious show that is not the case. Detective Conan: The Culprit Hanzawa is a pure comedy take on the world showing how things go wrong for the mysterious main character. Done well this could be a nice palette cleanser of a series given all the other anime series’ we are getting this season.
